Kim Lamont Owens, known professionally as Kem, is a talented American singer, songwriter, and music producer. He is famous for his smooth R&B and soul music. Kem has released several popular albums and songs throughout his career.

Kem's Early Life and Music Journey
Kim Lamont Owens was born on July 23, 1967, in Nashville, Tennessee. He grew up in both Pontiac and Southfield, Michigan.
How Kem Started His Career
Kem began his music journey by writing, producing, and paying for his first album, Kemistry, himself. He used his credit card and earned money by singing cover songs in a wedding band. In November 2001, he signed with Motown Records. Motown then re-released his album on February 25, 2003. This album was very successful, selling over 500,000 copies. It was certified Gold by the RIAA, which means it sold a lot of copies. The main song from this album was "Love Calls".
Kem's Albums and Hit Songs
Kem's second album, Album II, came out on May 17, 2005. This album was even more popular and was certified Platinum by the RIAA. This means it sold over one million copies! It featured the hit song "I Can't Stop Loving You," which became a number one song on urban adult contemporary radio. The album also included a song called "You Might Win," which featured the legendary musician Stevie Wonder playing the harmonica.
His third album, Intimacy: Album III, was released on August 17, 2010. It also achieved Gold certification from the RIAA.
Collaborations and Recent Work
In 2013, Kem worked with American singer Ronald Isley on a song called "My Favorite Thing." Kem also wrote and produced music for Isley.
On August 25, 2014, Kem released his fourth studio album, Promise to Love. He performed the song "Nobody" from this album on the TV show Steve Harvey. "Nobody" was even nominated for a Grammy Award. His fifth studio album, Love Always Wins, was released on August 28, 2020. This album includes the songs "Lie To Me" and "Live Out Your Love," which features the singer Toni Braxton.

Kem married his wife, Erica, in 2019. They have six children together.

Kem has received several awards and nominations for his music:
- In 2005, he won a Billboard Music Award for Top Adult R&B Single of the Year for his song "I Can't Stop Loving You."
- He was also nominated for Top Adult R&B Artist of the Year in 2005.
- In 2011, he received two nominations at the 53rd Grammy Awards for "Why Would You Stay": Best R&B Male Performance and Best R&B Song.
