Kematen in Tirol is a charming village in Tyrol, Austria. It is located in the Innsbruck Land District, about 12 kilometers (7.5 miles) west of the city of Innsbruck. The Melach River flows into the larger Inn River right here in Kematen.
The name Kematen comes from the Latin word caminata. This word means "heated chamber" or "room with a fireplace." This suggests that early buildings in the area might have had special heating.
Where is Kematen in Tirol?
Kematen is nestled in the beautiful Inn Valley. It sits where the Melach River, flowing from the Sellrain Valley, joins the Inn River. Most of the village is built on the land created by the Melach River's deposits. The Inn and Melach rivers form the northern and western edges of the village.
