Thomas Kenrick Kavanagh (born December 12, 1923 – died November 26, 2019) was an amazing Australian athlete. He was famous for being a Grand Prix motorcycle road racer and also a racecar driver!
Motorcycle Racing Achievements
Ken Kavanagh made history in 1952. He became the very first Australian to win a Grand Prix motorcycle race! This happened at the 350cc Ulster Grand Prix. Later, in 1956, he won another big race called the Junior TT at the famous Isle of Man TT.
Formula One Racing Attempts
Ken also tried his hand at Formula One car racing in 1958. He entered two Grand Prix races with his own Maserati 250F car.
His first attempt was at the 1958 Monaco Grand Prix, but he didn't qualify for the main race. His second try was at the 1958 Belgian Grand Prix. Sadly, his engine broke down during practice, so he couldn't start that race either.
