Kendra Davis Briggs (born December 19, 1974) is an American judge. She serves on the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. This is the main local court for Washington, D.C. Before becoming a judge in 2023, she worked for many years as a lawyer.

Education and Early Life
Kendra D. Briggs was born in Miami, Florida. She started her higher education at Florida A&M University, where she earned an Associate of Arts degree.
After that, she went to Florida State University. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1996.
To become a lawyer, she attended the University of Miami School of Law. She did very well in her studies. She graduated with high honors (cum laude) in 2002 with a Juris Doctor, which is the special degree needed to be a lawyer.
Path to Becoming a Judge
After finishing law school, Judge Briggs had many important jobs that prepared her for the courtroom.
Early Work as a Lawyer
Her first job was as a law clerk for Justice Peggy Quince at the Florida Supreme Court. A law clerk helps a judge with research and writing legal documents.
From 2002 to 2006, she worked at a law firm in Florida. Then, from 2006 to 2008, she was a lawyer for the Florida Department of Transportation. She later moved to Washington, D.C., to work for another law firm.
Working for the U.S. Government
In 2010, Briggs became an assistant United States attorney in Washington, D.C. In this job, she represented the U.S. government in court. She worked on important cases about civil rights and making sure public officials act honestly. She also served her local community as a prosecutor.
Becoming a Superior Court Judge
In November 2021, President Joe Biden chose Kendra D. Briggs to become a judge. This is called a nomination. To become a judge, the United States Senate had to approve her.
A Senate committee reviewed her experience and skills. After several steps, the full Senate confirmed her nomination in December 2022.
Kendra D. Briggs was officially sworn in as an associate judge on January 17, 2023. She took the seat of Judge Judith Bartnoff, who had finished her term.
