Kenisha LaCarol Pratt (born February 13, 1980 – died December 19, 2019) was a talented American songwriter and vocal producer. She helped create many popular songs for famous singers. Some of these artists include Brandy, Toni Braxton, and TLC. She also wrote songs for her brother, K-Young.

Kenisha Pratt's Music Journey

Kenisha Pratt grew up in Inglewood, California. Her mother was a skilled voice and piano teacher. Kenisha was the older sister of Kenneth "K-Young" Pratt. K-Young is a songwriter and was the lead singer of the R&B group 3rd Storee.

Learning Music

Kenisha loved music from a young age. She earned a full music scholarship. This scholarship was from the famous guitarist Tommy Tedesco. Kenisha then studied at the Musicians Institute in Los Angeles, California. She earned her degree there.

Starting Her Career

In the late 1990s, Kenisha began her professional songwriting career. She learned a lot from music producer Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins. She worked with him on big projects. These included Michael Jackson's album Invincible (2001). She also helped with TLC's album 3D (2002).

Working with Brandy

The next year, Kenisha co-wrote several songs for Brandy. These songs were on Brandy's album Full Moon. One of these songs was "What About Us?". For this song, Kenisha won a BMI Citation of Achievement Award. Kenisha often worked with Brandy on her later albums. These included Afrodisiac (2004) and Human (2008). They also wrote songs together for other artists, like Toni Braxton.

Other Collaborations

Kenisha also helped her brother K-Young with his music. She co-wrote most of the songs on his first solo album. This album was called Learn How to Love and came out in 2005. Many other music producers asked for her help. These included Mike City, Soulshock & Karlin, and Timbaland.

Kenisha Pratt's Passing

Kenisha Pratt passed away on December 19, 2019. She was 39 years old. Her brother, K-Young, shared the sad news in January 2020.
