Kenji (era) facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

The Kenji (建治) was a special way Japan kept track of time, like how we use years today. It was a short period, lasting from April 1275 to February 1278. During this time, the ruler of Japan was Emperor Go-Uda (後宇多天皇). The Kenji era came after the Bun'ei era and was followed by the Kōan era.

Important Events During Kenji

  • 1275 (Kenji 1): During this year, a group of people called the Mongols sent a special messenger, known as an ambassador, to Kamakura. This ambassador came along with a group of people from Goryeo, which is the old name for Korea. This visit was important because the Mongols were a powerful empire at the time.
