History of Kennerdell
Long ago, even before railroads existed, Kennerdell was a very busy place for trade. Its location helped a lot. It was where many smaller rivers, called tributaries, flowed into the Allegheny River.
By the time of the War of 1812, Kennerdell was sending huge amounts of goods down the river. Things like wool, coal, and timber from the big Allegheny forests were shipped. Farmers also sent their produce. These goods traveled on barges down the Allegheny River. They went to places like Fort Pitt and then to markets in Pittsburgh.
