How Kent Started
Kent was officially mapped out in 1887. This happened when the Chicago Great Western Railroad was building its tracks nearby. When Kent was founded, it was the only village in its area. People thought it would grow much bigger.
Kent was likely named after Reverend Aratus Kent. He was a traveling speaker from Galena, Illinois. The post office in Kent opened a long time ago, on July 29, 1850.
