Kentaro Hayashi (born August 29, 1972) is a former Japanese football player. He played as a midfielder or defender. He also played for the Japan national team. After his playing career, he became a coach.

Playing Career: Club Highlights
Kentaro Hayashi was born in Machida, Japan. He started his professional football journey in 1995. After finishing university, he joined a team called Verdy Kawasaki. This team later became known as Tokyo Verdy.
Early Years at Verdy Kawasaki
In his first year, Kentaro Hayashi played regularly for Verdy Kawasaki. He was an important part of the team. However, from 1996, he did not play as much.
Loan to Vissel Kobe and Return
In 1998, Hayashi moved to Vissel Kobe for a short time. This was a loan move. He returned to Verdy Kawasaki in 1999. After returning, he became a regular player again.
Winning the Emperor's Cup
His team, Tokyo Verdy, won the Emperor's Cup in 2004. This was a big achievement for the club. However, in 2005, Tokyo Verdy moved down to the J2 League. This meant they were no longer in the top division.
Final Years at Ventforet Kofu
After Tokyo Verdy moved down a league, Kentaro Hayashi joined Ventforet Kofu. He played for this team until the end of the 2009 season. He then retired from playing professional football.

Assistant Coach at Vissel Kobe
In 2018, he joined Vissel Kobe as an assistant coach. He worked under the manager Takayuki Yoshida.
Temporary Manager Role
Later in 2018, the manager resigned. Kentaro Hayashi took over as a temporary manager. He managed the team for 2 matches. Then, a new manager, Juan Manuel Lillo, joined the club. Hayashi left Vissel Kobe in June 2019. As of 2024, he is the manager for Gainare Tottori.
