Kentaro Hayashi (born August 29, 1972) is a former Japanese football player. He played as a midfielder or defender. He also played for the Japan national team.
Playing Career
Club Journey
Kentaro Hayashi was born in Machida, Japan, on August 29, 1972. After finishing university, he joined a professional football team called Verdy Kawasaki in 1995. This team later changed its name to Tokyo Verdy.
In his first year, Kentaro played regularly for the team. However, in 1996, he didn't get to play as much. In 1998, he went to play for another team, Vissel Kobe, for a short time. This is called being on "loan." It means he played for Vissel Kobe temporarily.
In 1999, Kentaro came back to Verdy Kawasaki. He became a regular player again. His team, Tokyo Verdy, won the 2004 Emperor's Cup, which is a big football tournament in Japan. But in 2005, the team had a tough year. They were "relegated," meaning they moved down to a lower league called J2 League.
After that, Kentaro moved to a new team, Ventforet Kofu. He played there until the end of the 2009 season. Then, he decided to stop playing professional football.
National Team Matches
Kentaro Hayashi also had the chance to play for his country, Japan. On August 6, 1995, he played his first game for the Japan national team. This match was against Costa Rica.
Just a few days later, on August 9, he played another game for Japan. This time, the match was against Brazil. In total, he played 2 games for Japan in 1995.
Coaching Career
After he stopped playing football, Kentaro Hayashi started a new career as a coach. In 2018, he joined Vissel Kobe, one of his former clubs. He worked as an assistant coach, helping the main manager.
Later that year, the main manager resigned. Kentaro took over as manager for two matches. He managed the team until a new manager was hired. In June 2019, Kentaro left his coaching role at Vissel Kobe.
In 2024, he became the manager for Gainare Tottori.
