After two years with the Kings, Kevin decided to play hockey in Europe. He signed with Barys Astana in the new Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) in July 2008. He quickly became a top player for Barys Astana. He was the best-scoring defenceman in the KHL, with 28 goals and 30 assists for a total of 58 points in 53 games.

In 2010, Kevin became a citizen of Kazakhstan and joined their national hockey team. His first big tournament for Kazakhstan was an Olympic qualifying tournament in Riga.

In May 2012, Kevin signed a two-year contract with SKA Saint Petersburg. But in May 2014, he returned to Barys Astana and signed a three-year contract with them.
