Professional Boxing Career
Early Fights and Titles
McBride started his professional career in December 1992. His first fight was a draw. In 1997, he won the All-Ireland Heavyweight Title. A few years later, in 2002, he also won the IBC Americas Heavyweight Title.
McBride, who is from Ireland, later moved to the United States. He lived and trained in Massachusetts, a state with a large Irish-American community.
The Famous Fight Against Mike Tyson
The biggest moment of McBride's career came on June 11, 2005. He fought Mike Tyson, a former world heavyweight champion, in Washington, D.C.
Many people expected Tyson to win easily. However, McBride used his size and strength to wear Tyson down. After the sixth round, Tyson told the referee he could not continue the fight. This gave McBride a victory by "technical knockout."
After the fight, Tyson said his heart was no longer in boxing and announced his retirement. He said, "I'm not going to disrespect the sport anymore by losing to this caliber of fighter." This victory made McBride famous all over the world.
Career After the Tyson Fight

After his famous win, McBride's career had its ups and downs. He won his next fight but then lost three in a row. One of these losses was to Andrew Golota.
After a break of three years, McBride returned to boxing in 2010. He fought a few more times but lost these matches. His final fight was in July 2011 against Mariusz Wach. After this loss, McBride retired from professional boxing.
His nickname, "The Clones Colossus," was a nod to his hometown of Clones. It was also a tribute to another famous Irish boxer, Barry McGuigan, who was called "The Clones Cyclone."
