Mariusz Wach (born 14 December 1979) is a professional boxer from Poland. He is known for being a heavyweight boxer. In 2012, he had a big fight for the unified heavyweight titles against Wladimir Klitschko.

Mariusz Wach was born in Kraków, Poland, on December 14, 1979. When he grew up, he moved to North Bergen, New Jersey, in the United States.

Mariusz's Early Boxing Days

Mariusz Wach started boxing in 1990. He had a long amateur career with 90 fights. He represented Poland in many boxing events. He won two gold medals and one bronze medal in the Polish Championships. He also won a silver medal in the 2004 European Union Championships. Mariusz was even an alternate for Poland in the 2004 Summer Olympics.

Mariusz's Professional Boxing Career

Starting as a Pro Boxer

Mariusz Wach became a professional boxer in April 2005. His first professional fight was in Poland, where he won by knockout in the first round. He then fought in America for the first time in January 2006. He won seven fights that year. He even won the Polish International heavyweight title. A few months later, he won another belt in the TWBA federation.

In April 2009, Mariusz defended his TWBA World Champion title in Poland. He also helped other famous boxers train as a sparring partner. After being out for a year due to an injury, Mariusz came back strong in 2010. He won a great fight by knocking out Christian Hammer in Germany.

In September 2010, Mariusz moved to the United States to train. He worked with former heavyweight champion Michael Moorer. In his first fight of 2011, Mariusz won the WBC Baltic heavyweight title. After this, he signed agreements with promoters to help his career.

Big Fights and Titles

Mariusz faced a big challenge in July 2011 against Kevin McBride. McBride was famous for ending Mike Tyson's boxing career. Mariusz was faster and stronger. He knocked McBride out in the fourth round, winning the WBC International heavyweight title.

Just four months later, Mariusz had another impressive win. He knocked out Jason Gavern in six rounds. On March 24, 2012, Mariusz showed he was a strong fighter. He won against Tye Fields in six rounds. This fight was even shown on ESPN.

Fighting for the World Title

Wach vs. Klitschko

In August 2011, there was talk about Mariusz fighting the world heavyweight champion, Wladimir Klitschko. The fight finally happened on November 10, 2012, in Hamburg, Germany. Mariusz was the fourth Polish boxer to try and win the world heavyweight title. He was very tall, even taller than Klitschko, and had a long reach.

On the night of the fight, Mariusz Wach lost to Wladimir Klitschko. The judges all decided that Klitschko won the fight. Klitschko landed more punches throughout the match. Mariusz showed how tough he was by taking many strong hits from Klitschko. After the fight, there were some issues regarding rules, which Mariusz addressed.

Later Career Fights

Wach vs. Whyte

On December 7, 2019, Mariusz Wach fought Dillian Whyte. Whyte was a top-ranked heavyweight boxer. Mariusz fought hard, but Whyte won the fight by decision.

Mariusz's next fight was against Kevin Johnson. This fight happened without fans because of special rules. Mariusz won this fight by decision.

Wach vs. Fury

After that, Mariusz fought Hughie Fury. Mariusz caused a cut on Fury in the fourth round and tried to hit that area. However, Fury fought back well and won the fight by decision.

Wach vs. Itauma

Mariusz Wach fought Moses Itauma for the WBO Intercontinental heavyweight title on July 27, 2024. The fight took place in London, England. Mariusz lost this fight in the second round.
