Kevin Willmott (born August 31, 1959) is an American film director and writer. He has won an Academy Award for his work. He is famous for making movies that focus on important topics, especially those about Black history and experiences.
Some of his well-known films include Ninth Street, C.S.A.: The Confederate States of America, and Bunker Hill. He also made The Only Good Indian (2009), which was about Native American children at a boarding school. This film showed how they were forced to change their culture.
In 2014, he directed Jayhawkers. This movie told the story of basketball legends Wilt Chamberlain and Phog Allen. It also featured the 1956 Kansas Jayhawks basketball team.
Kevin Willmott has worked closely with director Spike Lee. They won an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay together for the movie BlacKkKlansman. They also wrote Da 5 Bloods, which came out in 2020. Willmott is a professor of film at the University of Kansas.
