Key West is a small, unincorporated community located in Polk County, in the state of Minnesota, United States. An unincorporated community means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. It's part of the larger county.
History of Key West
Key West has an interesting past. It was once known by a different name: Bockersville. This name was used for a while before it changed.
How Key West Got Its Name
The name Key West might have come from a nearby area called Keystone Township. Local stories suggest this is how the name came to be.
The Old Post Office
A post office was first set up in 1892 when the community was still called Bockersville. In 1896, the name of the post office officially changed to Keywest. However, the post office eventually closed down in 1910.
