Khary Randolph grew up in Boston, Massachusetts. Today, he lives in Brooklyn, New York.
How Khary Randolph Got Started in Comics
In an interview, Khary shared what inspired him when he was young. He loved "nerdy stuff" like comics, video games, and cartoons. He said that escaping into these worlds was important where he grew up.
Even as a kid, he would think about how he would draw things differently. His first comic book love was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. He read those books so much they almost fell apart!
Discovering Image Comics
A big moment for Khary was discovering Image Comics. He was amazed by the art and colors in their early books. Comics like Youngblood, Cyberforce, WildCATS, and Spawn seemed "next-level" to him. The artists who created these comics were like rock stars. After seeing their work, Khary knew he wanted to be a comic artist too.
Khary Randolph's Education and First Works
Khary Randolph studied at the School of Visual Arts. He earned a degree in Cartooning & Illustration in 2000.
His first published comic book work was for Marvel Comics. It was in Spider-Man: Legend of the Spider-Clan #5, which came out in 2003.
He also illustrated cards for the Chaotic Trading Card Game. This game was released in 2007.

Drawing for DC Comics
From 2013 to 2015, Khary drew covers for DC Comics' Batman Beyond Universe.
In June 2015, he worked on We Are Robin. This series was about several teenagers in Gotham City who became new versions of Robin. He worked with writer Lee Bermejo and artist Rob Haynes on this project.
Creating Excellence and Other Works
In 2016, Khary Randolph drew covers for Black from Black Mask Studios.
In 2019, Khary and writer Brandon Thomas launched a new series called Excellence. This comic is published by Image Comics/Skybound Entertainment. Excellence is about a secret group of black magicians. It was created entirely by people of color.
