Khemchand Bohare was an important leader and social reformer from India. He worked hard to bring about positive changes for people who faced discrimination. He believed everyone should have equal rights and opportunities.

Early Life and Education

Khemchand Bohare was born in 1875 in Shahganj, a town near Agra in Uttar Pradesh, India. His family belonged to the Jatav community. He studied at St. John's College, Agra, which was a well-known school. After his education, he worked as a contractor for the Great India Peninsula Railway. This job involved managing construction projects for the railway line.

Working for Equality

In 1910, Khemchand Bohare decided to leave his railway job. He wanted to dedicate his life to helping people who were treated unfairly. At that time, many people, especially those from the Chamar community, faced a lot of discrimination. They were often called "untouchables" and were not allowed to do many things that others could.

Khemchand Bohare worked to improve the lives of these communities. He gathered other leaders, like Swami Achootanand and Manikchand Jatav. Together, they founded an important organization called the Jatav Mahasabha. The main goal of this group was to change how people saw the Chamar community. They wanted to give them a new, respected identity as "Jatavs." Khemchand Bohare focused on improving their education, helping them unite, and lifting them out of poverty.

Role in Politics

Khemchand Bohare also played a role in politics to bring about change.

Local Government

In 1918, he was chosen to be a member of the Agra Municipal Council. This council helped manage the city's services, like roads and sanitation. Later, he also joined the District Education Board, which worked to improve schools in the area.

Legislative Council

In 1922, Khemchand Bohare became a member of the United Provinces Legislative Council. This council was responsible for making laws for the region. He served in this role until 1937. While in the council, he worked to ensure that people from discriminated communities had a voice. He helped pass a rule that said one member from these communities should be part of local government boards in every district. This was a big step towards equal representation.

Speaking Up for Rights

Khemchand Bohare also spoke in front of the Simon Commission. This was a group sent by the British government to study India's future. He used this chance to explain the challenges faced by discriminated communities. He also became the Vice President of the All India Depressed Classes Association, working alongside Rao Sahib M.C. Rajah.

In the 1937 Indian provincial elections, Khemchand Bohare ran for election in the Agra area. However, he did not win this election, losing to Manik Chand Jatav.

Khemchand Bohare passed away on February 14, 1960, in Agra. His efforts helped pave the way for greater equality and respect for all people in India.
