Kilaga Springs is a cool place in Placer County, California, with a long history! It's a natural spring and used to be a popular resort. You can find it about 17 kilometers (10.5 miles) west-northwest of Auburn. It sits at an elevation of 155 meters (509 feet) above sea level.

The Story of Kilaga Springs

Kilaga Springs started in 1923. It was built on the site of an old mine called Whiskey Diggings. Water would naturally seep out of the ground there.

How Kilaga Got Its Name

The name "Kilaga" is quite clever! It comes from the first letters of the last names of the people who founded the site. Their names were Kimberlin, Landis, and Gaylord.

From Mine to Healing Waters

People believed the water from Kilaga Springs had special healing powers. Because of this, the water was bottled up and sold to others. Soon, a spa and resort were built at the site.

Challenges and Changes

The resort faced some tough times. It burned down twice, once in 1924 and again in 1938. The spa eventually closed in 1940. After that, the site was left empty for many years.

A New Beginning

Even though it was abandoned for a long time, Kilaga Springs has a new chapter! A new resort has recently been built there, bringing life back to this historic spot.
