Kim Bum-soo (Hangul: 김범수; Hanja: 金範洙; born January 26, 1979) is a famous singer from South Korea. Many people think he is one of the best singers in the country. Kim started his music career in 1999 with his first album, A Promise. In 2001, his song "Hello Goodbye Hello" even made it onto the Billboard Hot Singles Sales chart in the United States. He is most famous for his song "I Miss You." This song was part of the soundtrack for the popular 2003 Korean drama, Stairway to Heaven.

Early Life and School
Kim Bum-soo was born in Changwon, a city in South Gyeongsang Province, South Korea. Later, his family moved to Seoul. There, he went to Gangseo Technical High School. Kim said he felt like an "outsider" during high school. But then he joined a church choir. People there really liked his singing, and this helped him feel more confident.
After high school, he decided to study music. He went to Soongsil University and later to Seoul Institute of the Arts.
Music Career Highlights
Kim Bum-soo began his singing career in 1999. His first album was called A Promise. The main song from this album was used in a Korean drama called See and See Again. However, the album did not sell a lot of copies at first.
International Success
In 2000, Kim released his second album, Remember. After this, he got an exciting offer. He was asked to record the main song, "Once Upon a Day," in English. This English version was called "Hello Goodbye Hello." It was released in the United States. On December 22, 2001, this song reached number 51 on the Billboard Hot Singles Sales chart.
Breaking Through in Korea
Kim's big moment in South Korea came in 2003. The main song from his 2002 album, I Miss You, was chosen for the drama Stairway to Heaven. Both the song and the drama became huge hits. Because of this success, Kim performed in Japan for the first time after the drama became popular there.
Military Service and Return
In 2006, Kim released his fifth album, So Long.... After this, he joined the military. From April 2006 to October 2008, Kim completed his mandatory military service. He served as an "entertainment soldier" for the Ministry of National Defense.
He came back to music with his sixth album, Kim Bum Soo Vol. 6, in August 2008. People had high hopes for his return. Later that year, he released "A Story Sadder Than Sadness" for the movie More Than Blue.
New Albums and TV Shows
In 2009, Kim released several singles. These included "Regrets to Forget" and "Slow Man." In 2010, he sang "Loving You" for the drama Giant. He then released his album Solista Part.1 with the song "It Will Pass." He also sang "Appear" for the popular SBS drama Secret Garden.
In January 2011, he worked with Girls' Generation member Taeyeon on the song "Different." A few months later, he joined the TV singing competition I Am a Singer. This show featured many famous South Korean singers. Kim said he didn't think he was very popular before the show. But I Am a Singer helped him become much more well-known. He won seven episodes in a row, which was a great achievement.
He released his album Solista Part. 2 in June 2011. This album included "Different" and the song "Last Love." The next month, he released "Person, Love" with Lena Park. In November, he sang "Though I Don't Say It" for the historical drama Deep Rooted Tree.
In 2012, he released the single "Rock Star." He also worked with Lena Park again on "White Winter."
Recent Projects
In 2013, Hong Myung-bo asked Kim to sing a theme song. This song was for the Hong Myung-bo Scholarship Foundation Campaign. The campaign aimed to raise money for children with cancer. The song, "Higher," was released in December 2013. In September 2014, he released "Teardrop of My Heart."
Kim released his album HIM in November 2014. The main song was "Home Meal," featuring Geeks. In 2015, he sang "Only You" for the drama Hyde Jekyll, Me. In 2016, he released "Pain Poem" as part of SM Entertainment's SM Station project.
He also sang "I Love You" for the drama Uncontrollably Fond in August 2016. In March 2017, he released "Amnesia" for the drama Saimdang, Memoir of Colors. In 2018, Kim released a remake of an old song called "I Love You" for his album re.MAKE20 #1.
