Gim Ikhun (김익훈, 金益勳, 1619 – March 11, 1689) was an important person in Korea during the Joseon Dynasty. He was a politician (someone who works in government) and a general (a high-ranking military leader). He belonged to the noble class, meaning his family had a high social standing.
Gim Ikhun was part of the Gwangsan Kim clan, a well-known family. He also had a special pen name, Gwangnam, which was a name he used for writing. His courtesy name was Mu-suk.

Early Life and Family
Gim Ikhun was born in 1619. His father was named Gim Ban. His grandfather was Gim Jangsaeng, who was also a very respected scholar. Gim Ikhun's family, the Gwangsan Kim clan, was quite influential.
His Career in Government
Because of a system called Eumseo (음서), which allowed children of high-ranking officials to get government jobs, Gim Ikhun started his career. He was first appointed as a Geombudosa (의금부도사), a role in the justice department.
He later became the mayor of Namwon (남원부사). This was an important job where he was in charge of a city. He also served as Saboksichumjeong (사복시첨정), which was a position related to the royal stables. In 1667, he became Sadosijeong (사도시정).
Important Roles and Later Years
In 1678, Gim Ikhun became the mayor of Gwangju (광주부윤). After that, he was appointed as a general in the Eoyeong department (어영대장). This meant he was a leader in a special military unit. He also became the Byeongmajeoldosa (전라도병마절도사) for Jeolla Province, which was a top military commander role for that region.
In 1680, he was again appointed as the mayor of Gwangju. However, he was later dismissed from this position. Gim Ikhun passed away on March 11, 1689, at the age of 70. His death occurred during a time of political conflict involving different groups, including the Southerners faction.
