Kimberley Sherri Knowles (born October 7, 1970) is a judge who works at the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. Before this, she was a different kind of judge, called a magistrate judge, at the same court from 2010 to 2012.

Her Path to Becoming a Judge
Early Education and Law School
Kimberley Knowles studied at Cornell University, where she earned a degree in 1992. After that, she went to Howard University School of Law. She finished law school and earned her law degree in 1996.
Starting Her Legal Career
After law school, Ms. Knowles worked for a judge named Eric T. Washington. This job, called a "clerkship," helps new lawyers learn how courts work. Then, she joined the U.S. Attorney's Office in Washington D.C.. This office represents the U.S. government in court cases. In 2004, she became a leader in the office's section that deals with family violence cases.
Becoming a Judge in D.C.
On May 10, 2010, Kimberley Knowles became a magistrate judge at the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. Magistrate judges handle some types of cases and help the court run smoothly.
Later, on June 11, 2012, President Barack Obama chose Ms. Knowles to become an associate judge. This is a more permanent role, usually lasting 15 years. The Senate had to approve her for this job. After a hearing and a vote, the Senate confirmed her nomination. She officially became an associate judge on November 9, 2012.
