About Kina's Music Journey
Starting Her Solo Career
Kina was born in Detroit, a big city in Michigan. When she was 21 years old, she moved to Los Angeles, California. This city is famous for its music and movie industries. While trying to start her music career, Kina worked as a server and in office jobs.
She found success with her song "Girl from the Gutter." This song was played a lot on the radio. It reached number 21 on a special music chart called the Billboard Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart. After this success, Kina released her first album, also called Kina, on July 18, 2000. This album reached number 14 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart. This chart helps highlight new and rising artists.
After "Girl from the Gutter," Kina released another song called "Me." This song reached number 3 on the same dance music chart. Another song, "Have a Cry," was sent to radio stations but did not appear on any charts.
So far, Kina is her only album. Kina left DreamWorks Records shortly after her last song from the album was released.
A few years later, Kina's songs started appearing in different TV shows. In 2005, her songs "Give & Take" and "I Love You" were both featured in an episode of the TV show Girlfriends. Kina's song "Sincerely" was also used in the movie Beauty Shop.
