Kinder Pinguí is a popular chocolate snack made by the Italian company Ferrero. It is part of their well-known Kinder line of treats.

This snack is a chilled chocolate bar with a soft, milky filling. It's covered in a layer of dark chocolate. Each bar weighs 30 grams and contains about 9.9 grams of sugar and 8.9 grams of fat.

Kinder Pinguí is mainly sold to families with children. A survey in 2004 showed that in Germany, almost half of all kids between 6 and 13 years old ate at least one Kinder Pinguí each week.

What is in a Kinder Pinguí?

Kinder Pinguí is a layered chocolate bar. It has a light, fluffy milk cream filling sandwiched between two thin layers of chocolate sponge cake. The entire bar is then coated in a layer of crisp, dark chocolate.

In the past, some Kinder products had a tiny amount of alcohol in the recipe. However, Ferrero changed the recipe in mid-2000 to remove it, making the snack suitable for everyone.

Nutritional Information

Like many sweet treats, Kinder Pinguí is high in energy. It has about 450 kcal for every 100 grams. While Ferrero's ads often highlight that the snack contains milk, it's important to remember it's a confectionery product.

The milk ingredients are mostly butterfat and skimmed milk powder. In one 30-gram bar, this is about the same as one teaspoon (5 grams) of milk ingredients. Because of its sugar and fat content, it is best enjoyed as an occasional treat.

Marketing and Flavors

Ferrero uses smart advertising to sell Kinder Pinguí. The ads often feature a friendly penguin character, which makes the snack appealing to kids. However, the message in the ads is often aimed at parents, suggesting it's a convenient and enjoyable treat for the family.

This marketing style places Kinder Pinguí between other Ferrero products. Some, like Kinder Chocolate, are advertised more to adults. Others, like Happy Hippo, are aimed directly at children with their fun shapes.

Different Kinds of Kinder Pinguí

Besides the original chocolate flavor, Ferrero sometimes releases special editions.

  • Strawberry
  • Raspberry

Since 2018, two other flavors have become permanent additions to the lineup:

  • Cocos (Coconut)
  • Caramel

In 2004, the Kinder Pinguí television commercial was very popular in Germany. It was the third most-played ad on German TV that year, being shown over 3,300 times.
