Kindred the Family Soul is an American music duo. It's made up of a married couple, Fatin Dantzler and Aja Graydon. They are known for their R&B and soul music. Fatin was born in 1973 in Camden, New Jersey. Aja was born on September 25, 1978, in Los Angeles, California.
The duo started their journey in Philadelphia. They were part of a cool music scene called "neo soul." Another famous singer, Jill Scott, helped them get noticed. She introduced them to a record label president in 2000. This happened while Kindred was performing at a weekly show in Philly. Soon after, they signed their first music contract.
Music Journey and Albums
Kindred the Family Soul worked hard on their first album. It was called Surrender to Love. They released it in February 2003. A popular song from this album was "Far Away". Their next album came out in 2005. It was titled In This Life Together. This name was inspired by a book. The album featured the song "Where Would I Be (The Question)".
Awards and More Music
Kindred the Family Soul received nominations for their music. In 2004, they were nominated for a Soul Train Music Award. This was for their album Surrender to Love. They also got a BET Award nomination in 2006. Their third album, The Arrival, came out in 2008.
In 2011, they released Love Has No Recession. This album had many guest artists. Some famous names included Snoop Dogg and Bilal. The song "Magic Happens" from this album became very popular. Later, they released A Couple Friends in 2014. In 2016, they shared Legacy Of Love. This album included the hit song “All My People”.
Recent Projects
Kindred the Family Soul continues to make music. They released "Auntie & Unc" in 2021. This album features their song "Break It Down". They are also focusing on a special interview and performance series. It's called "Kindred Presents".
