King Hui of Zhou facts for kids

King Hui of Zhou (Chinese: 周惠王; pinyin: Zhōu Huì Wáng), whose personal name was Ji Lang, was an important ruler in ancient China. He was the seventeenth king of the Zhou dynasty. He was also the fifth king of the Eastern Zhou period. He ruled from 676 BC to 652 BC.

Family Life of King Hui

Kings in ancient China often had large families. This was important for making sure there was always a new ruler. King Hui of Zhou had several important family members.

His Queens

King Hui had two main queens:

• Queen Chen (陳後)
• Queen Hui of Zhou (周惠後 媯姓). She was also known as Chen Gui (陳媯). She came from the Gui family of the Chen state. She might have been the daughter of Duke Xuan of Chen. She married King Hui in 676 BC. She was the mother of two of his sons, Crown Prince Zheng and Prince Dai.

His Children

King Hui had several children who played roles in the royal family.

Sons of King Hui

• Crown Prince Zheng (太子鄭): He later became King Xiang of Zhou. He ruled after his father from 651 BC to 619 BC.
• Prince Dai (王子帶): He was born in 672 BC and died in 635 BC. He became known as Duke Zhao of Gan (甘昭公).

Daughters of King Hui

• Wang Ji (王姬): She was a princess. She married Duke Xiang of Song, another important ruler.
