What Was Kingston House Used For?
Over the years, Kingston House has had many different jobs.
- In 1872, it became a place to help young girls. It was a training facility for girls who needed support.
- Later, in the late 1800s, it became a military headquarters. It was the main office for the Shropshire Regiment of Yeomanry Cavalry. This was a type of army unit.

Kingston House During World War I
In August 1914, a big event happened at Kingston House. The Shropshire Yeomanry soldiers were mobilised from this building. This means they were called up for active duty. They were then sent to Egypt to fight in World War I.

After the war ended, Kingston House was no longer used by the military. It was decommissioned, meaning it was taken out of military service. The building was then changed for business use. Today, a company of solicitors, which are like lawyers, uses Kingston House as their office.
