Kinkler is a small place in Lavaca County, Texas, in the United States. It's what we call an unincorporated community. This means it's a neighborhood or area that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government. Kinkler is located about 7 miles north of a town called Hallettsville, right along U.S. Route 77.
Kinkler's History
Kinkler got its name from a person named Jack Kinkler. He was one of the first people to settle in this area back in 1875.
Early Days and Growth
Life in Kinkler started to grow in the late 1800s. By 1880, the community had its own school. This was important for the children living there.
A few years later, in 1885, Kinkler also got a post office. A post office is where people could send and receive letters and packages. It helped connect the community to other places. However, the post office eventually closed in 1905.
Businesses and Population
Kinkler was always quite close to bigger towns like Hallettsville and Schulenburg. Because of this, it never really developed a large business area. Most people would likely go to the nearby towns for shopping.
The first time Kinkler was listed in the Texas Almanac was in 1933. At that time, it only had two businesses. This shows it remained a small community. As of the year 2000, about 75 people lived in Kinkler.
