Kinloch Lodge

Kinloch Lodge, which first opened its doors in 1897, was once a special private home for the Duke of Sutherland. It is located close to the village of Tongue in Sutherland, a beautiful part of Scotland.

Discovering Kinloch Lodge

Kinloch Lodge has a long and interesting history. It was originally built as a place for hunting and outdoor sports. Imagine a huge area where people could go fishing, hunting, and enjoy nature! Today, this historic lodge has been beautifully updated and now welcomes visitors as a hotel.

A Historic Scottish Estate

In 1919, after a big war called the Great War (World War I), the Duke of Sutherland sold Kinloch Lodge. The land around the lodge, known as the Kinloch Estate, is very large. It covers nearly 20,000 acres! That's like thousands of football fields. This vast estate stretches from the sea, at a place called the Kyle of Tongue, all the way up to over 3,000 feet high on Ben Hope. Ben Hope is the most northern mountain in Scotland that is over 3,000 feet tall, known as a Munro.

Nature and Conservation Today

In 2011, a businessman from Denmark named Anders Holch Povlsen bought Kinloch Lodge. He carefully renovated it, making sure to keep its historic charm while adding modern comforts. Kinloch Lodge is now part of a bigger project called Wildland Ltd. This project is one of the largest nature conservation efforts in the Scottish Highlands. It focuses on protecting and restoring the natural beauty and wildlife of this amazing part of Scotland. So, Kinloch Lodge is not just a hotel; it's also part of an important mission to help nature thrive.
