Kinza Clodumar's Early Life and Political Journey
Kinza Clodumar was born in a place called Boe in Nauru. He was part of the native population of Nauru. He cared a lot about the environment and worked to protect it.
Starting in Parliament
Kinza Clodumar was a member of the Parliament of Nauru for many years. The Parliament is like the main law-making group for the country. He was unique because he was elected to Parliament from two different areas, called constituencies.
He first served for the Aiwo Constituency. He was elected in 1971 and served three times. Later, in 1992, he decided to run in a different area, the Boe Constituency. He was elected again in 1995.
Important Government Roles
Kinza Clodumar held several key positions in the Nauruan government. He was a Minister Assisting the President a few times. This role means he helped the President with important tasks.
He also served as the Speaker of the Parliament of Nauru for a short time in 1986. The Speaker is like the referee who makes sure meetings in Parliament run smoothly.
Clodumar was also the Minister of Finance many times. This job involves managing the country's money and economy. He held this role in different periods, including from 1977 to 1978 and again in the 1980s and 1990s.
He was known for changing his support for other politicians. If he stopped supporting a president, that president often lost their job in a special vote.
Becoming President of Nauru
Kinza Clodumar became the President of Nauru on February 12, 1997. He was the country's leader for about a year. During his time as President, he also continued to be the Minister of Finance.
His time as President ended on June 18, 1998. He was removed from office by a no confidence vote. This means that most members of Parliament decided they no longer supported him as President.
Life After the Presidency
Even after his presidency, Kinza Clodumar continued to be involved in Nauruan politics. He served as the Minister of Finance again several times between 1999 and 2004.
In 2003, he tried to become President again twice. However, he lost the vote in Parliament by a very small margin both times. He lost his seat in Parliament in the election held in October 2004.
Kinza Clodumar also started and led a political group called the Centre Party.
He passed away on November 29, 2021, at the age of 76. He received a special state funeral the next day, which is a formal ceremony for important people.
