The President of Nauru is the top leader of the country. This person is both the head of state (like a symbol of the country) and the head of government (who runs the country day-to-day). The President is chosen by the members of the Parliament.

Nauru's Parliament has 19 members. They are elected for a term of three years. In Nauru, political parties do not play a very big role. This means that politicians often change who they support. Because of this, the government can change quite often. This includes who holds the important job of President.
