Exploring Kirbyville's Past
How Kirbyville Got Its Name
The village of Kirbyville is named after the Kirby family. They were one of the first families to settle in Richmond Township. The Kirby family owned and worked a farm right in the village.
The Old Farm Becomes a New Market
In 2017, the old Kirby family farm found new owners. Three Mennonite farmers bought the land. They had a cool plan to open a big farmers market. It would be called the Kirbyville Farm Market. They hoped to open it by early 2019.
The farm has an old building called a bank barn. The Kirby family built this barn about 200 years ago! It's being fixed up and made new inside. This historic barn will become the home for the new farmers market.
