Kirsten Boie (born March 19, 1950) is a famous German author who writes books for children and young people. She is also an activist who cares about important issues. Before becoming a writer, she worked as a teacher. Since 1985, she has written over 100 books! Some of her most well-known stories include Paule ist ein Glücksgriff, the Kinder aus dem Möwenweg series, and Ritter Trenk. She has received special awards, like the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany, and is an honorary citizen of her hometown, Hamburg.

About Kirsten Boie

Kirsten Boie was born in Hamburg, Germany, in 1950. From 1969 to 1974, she studied German and English literature at the University of Hamburg. After finishing her studies, she worked as a teacher at a secondary school. In 1985, she started her career as a published author.

Her Books and Awards

In 1985, Kirsten Boie published her very first children's book. It was called Paule ist ein Glücksgriff. This story was about a child from a different background who was adopted into a German family.

Since then, she has written more than 100 books for children. Two of her most famous works are Ritter Trenk, which came out in 2006, and the Kinder aus dem Möwenweg series, which started in 2000.

Kirsten Boie has received many awards for her amazing contributions to children's literature. In 2008, she won the Großer Preis der Deutschen Akademie für Kinder- und Jugendliteratur. She also received the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany in 2011. This is a very high honor in Germany.

In December 2019, Kirsten Boie was given the special title of honorary citizen of Hamburg. This is her home city. In 2020, a new award for children's literature was even named after her: the Kirsten-Boie-Preis. The first person to win this award was the German author Julia Blesken.

Her Activism Work

Kirsten Boie is not just a writer; she is also an activist. In 2018, she joined a group of German authors called Hamburger Erklärung. This group wanted to make sure that children in primary schools learned to read well. They believed reading skills were very important.

After the European migrant crisis in 2015, she wrote a book called Everything Will Be Alright. This book tells the story of a child who had to leave the Syrian city of Homs. Kirsten Boie wrote this book to help people understand what life was like for Syrian refugee children in German schools. The book was published in both German and Arabic.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, she also took part in a campaign by the newspaper Hamburger Abendblatt. This campaign encouraged children to read books while they were staying at home during the lockdown.
