Early Life and Music Journey
Kiyoshi Ijichi started playing drums when he was young. He learned a lot by playing in marching bands during his junior high school years. This helped him become the great drummer he is today.
In 1996, Kiyoshi went to Kanto Gakuin University. There, he met his future bandmates: Masafumi Gotoh, Kensuke Kita, and Takahiro Yamada. Kiyoshi already had experience playing in bands. He was part of another college band at the time. Later, he decided to join Gotoh, Kita, and Yamada. Together, they formed the band Asian Kung-Fu Generation. They have been playing music together ever since.
Musical Talents and Interests
Besides playing the drums, Kiyoshi Ijichi is also a skilled piano player. You can hear his piano playing in some of his band's songs. For example, he plays a part of "Clair de Lune" by Debussy in the intro of their song "Moonlight."
Kiyoshi has a degree in engineering. He enjoys listening to different kinds of music. Some of his favorite bands include Brian Setzer, Link, King Bee, and Hi-Standard. While his bandmates often like British alternative rock, Kiyoshi prefers American and Japanese punk rock. He is also the only member of his band who listens to heavy metal. Kiyoshi is one of the few Japanese Christians.
