Kićo's Early Career
In the 1960s, Kićo Slabinac was part of several rock and roll bands. He loved playing music and performing. Later, he decided to become a solo pop singer. He moved to Zagreb, a big city in Croatia, to focus on his music career.
Becoming a Solo Star
While performing in a club, a famous music producer named Nikica Kalogjera noticed Kićo. This was a big moment for him! Nikica gave him a chance to perform at the 1969 Split Festival, which is a well-known music event.
Just one year later, in 1970, Kićo won first prize at the Opatija Festival. This showed everyone how talented he was. In 1971, he got to represent Yugoslavia (the country Croatia was part of back then) at the Eurovision Song Contest. He sang a song called "Tvoj dječak je tužan" and finished in 14th place.
Later Music and Challenges
One of Kićo Slabinac's biggest hits was the song "Zbog jedne divne crne žene." This song made him even more famous and cemented his place as a top singer.
However, in the 1970s, Kićo faced some challenges and spent time living abroad. After returning from the United States, he started to focus more on folk music. Even so, he continued to be active in the pop music scene, releasing new songs and performing for his fans.
A Hit Song in Macedonia
Kićo's song "Letaj mi" became a classic in Macedonia. It was special because he sang it in the Macedonian language at the "MakFest" festival in 1989. People loved it, and it's still remembered there today.
Krunoslav Slabinac passed away on November 13, 2020, in Zagreb. He had been ill for a long time.
