Ko Olina Station and Ko Olina Center are two fun shopping areas in the beautiful resort town of Ko Olina, Kapolei, Hawaii. Together, they form a special kind of shopping place called a lifestyle center. This means it has shops, restaurants, and other services, often in an outdoor setting.
The first part, Ko Olina Station, opened in 2009. Ko Olina Center opened a year later in 2010. These two centers are right across the street from each other. They have about 31 different shops and places to eat. Many of these businesses are local Hawaiian companies, like ABC Stores and MonkeyPod Kitchen. The whole area was designed to feel like a charming, old Hawaiian village.
What is Ko Olina Station and Center?
Ko Olina Station and Center were built to serve people staying at the four big resorts in Ko Olina. These resorts include Aulani, Four Seasons' Ihilani Resort, Ko Olina Beach Villas, and Marriott's Ko Olina Beach Club. The shopping area is also near the Ko Olina Golf Club. This golf club hosts a big golf tournament called the Lotte Championship every spring.
The Honu Group developed this lifestyle center. Ko Olina Station was the first part to open in 2009. Ko Olina Center opened in 2010 and even has a second floor with office spaces. The goal of these centers is to offer shops, restaurants, and services to everyone in Ko Olina. Together, they have about 56,000 square feet of space for shops and offices.
New Shops and Changes
In 2014, some new stores joined the center. These included Wyland Galleries, Island Sole, and Honolua Surf Co. A fancy clothing store called Pineapple Boutique even opened a second location there.
Later, one of the big resorts, JW Marriott Ihilani, closed down. This made some of the shop owners a bit worried. For example, the owner of Pizza Corner joked that his pizza sales might "lose a slice." But by 2016, most of the shops and offices were full, showing the center was doing well.
How Ko Olina Station and Center are Designed
The design of Ko Olina Station and Center makes you feel like you're in a traditional Hawaiian village. For example, the grocery store, Island Country Market, looks like an old "country store." It's owned by ABC Stores.
A writer from MidWeek magazine said the store offers "high-quality foods." She also said it creates a "one-of-a-kind shopping experience." The center is built next to old train tracks from the Oahu Railway and Land Company. These tracks used to carry goods and people to the North Shore of Oahu. This history helped inspire the center's design, giving it a classic, historic feel.
