Koichi Kidera (木寺 浩一, Kidera Koichi, born April 4, 1972) is a former Japanese football player. He played as a goalkeeper for several clubs during his career.

Koichi Kidera's Football Journey

Koichi Kidera was born in Hidaka, Japan, on April 4, 1972. After finishing high school, he started his professional football career.

Early Career and Club Changes

In 1991, Koichi joined the Japan Soccer League club NKK. The league changed in 1992, and NKK became part of the new Japan Football League (JFL). Koichi became a regular goalkeeper for NKK in 1992. However, he did not play much in 1993. His club, NKK, was then disbanded at the end of the 1993 season.

In 1994, Koichi moved to another JFL club, Kyoto Purple Sanga. He played there for two seasons but did not get to play in many matches. After that, in 1996, he joined Honda Luminozo Sayama, a club in the Japanese Regional Leagues. He played for them for two years.

Time at Albirex Niigata

In 1998, Koichi joined Albirex Niigata, which was also a JFL club at the time. He played often for this team. In 1999, Albirex Niigata was promoted to the new J2 League. Koichi often competed with another goalkeeper, Shinya Yoshihara, for a spot on the team until 2000.

However, in 2001, he played less often than Yosuke Nozawa. His club, Albirex Niigata, won the championship in 2003. This win meant they were promoted to the top league, the J1 League, in 2004. In 2004, Koichi played more often during the summer because Nozawa was injured. He became a regular goalkeeper again in late 2005. But at the end of the 2005 season, he left the club as they were looking for younger players.

Later Career and Retirement

In 2006, Koichi moved to Sanfrecce Hiroshima, a club in the J1 League. He did not play as often as Takashi Shimoda there. In 2007, Sanfrecce Hiroshima reached the final of the Emperor's Cup, but they were the runners-up. In 2008, the club was moved down to the J2 League. Koichi became a regular goalkeeper that year after Shimoda got injured. However, Koichi himself injured his shoulder in June and could not play for the rest of the season.

In 2009, Koichi Kidera moved to Zweigen Kanazawa, a club in the Regional Leagues. He played often for them. The club was promoted to the Japan Football League in 2010. However, Koichi decided to retire from football at the end of the 2009 season.
