Koji Arimura's Football Journey
Koji Arimura was born in Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan, on August 25, 1976. He loved football from a young age. After finishing his studies at the University of Teacher Education Fukuoka, he began his professional career.
Starting with Sagan Tosu
In 1999, Koji joined Sagan Tosu. This club had just been promoted to the J2 League, which is Japan's second-highest football division. In his first year, he didn't play many games. However, by 2000, he started playing more often. By 2001, he became a regular player for the team. He often played as a right-side midfielder.
Moving to Oita Trinita
In 2002, Koji moved to another J2 League club, Oita Trinita. Here, he became a key player, often playing as a left-side defender. His team had a fantastic year in 2002. They won the J2 League championship! This win meant they were promoted to the J1 League, which is Japan's top football division, starting in 2003. Koji continued to be a regular player for Oita Trinita until 2004. In 2005, he played fewer games.
Later Career and Retirement
In 2006, Koji joined Nagoya Grampus Eight, a team in the J1 League. He started the year as a regular left-side defender. But after May, he didn't get to play in any more matches. Later that year, in September, he moved to Vissel Kobe, a J2 League club. However, he hardly played any games there either.
In 2007, Koji made another move. He joined Rosso Kumamoto, which was then in the Japan Football League. This league is below the J1 and J2 leagues. Koji played regularly for them, and the team did well. They were promoted to the J2 League in 2008! But in 2008, Koji's chances to play decreased again. At the end of the 2008 season, he decided to retire from professional football.
Koji Arimura played in 228 league games throughout his career. He scored 7 goals in total.
