Koki Mizuno's Club Career Highlights

Starting with JEF United Chiba

After finishing high school at Shimizu Commercial High School, Mizuno joined JEF United Ichihara in 2004. This team later changed its name to JEF United Chiba. He quickly became a key player and was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the 2006 J.League Cup competition. This was a big achievement for him early in his career.

Playing for Celtic in Scotland

In January 2008, the Scottish club Celtic showed interest in signing Mizuno. To play in Scotland, he needed a special permission called a work permit. At first, he was not given the permit. However, Celtic's coach, Gordon Strachan, spoke up for him. He said that Mizuno was a very talented young player. Because of this, the appeal was successful, and Koki Mizuno officially joined Celtic on 29 January 2008.

Mizuno played his first game for Celtic in a friendly match against Southampton on 18 July 2008. His first league game in the Scottish Premier League was on 8 November against Motherwell. He came into the game in the last few minutes. On 21 December 2008, he started his first game for Celtic against Falkirk. In that match, he scored his first goal for the club in the 90th minute, which was very exciting!

During the next season, 2009–10, Mizuno only played in two games for Celtic. He left the club on 1 July 2010.

Returning to Japan with Kashiwa Reysol

In the summer of 2010, Mizuno moved back to Japan and signed with J2 League team Kashiwa Reysol. Sadly, in his very first game for Kashiwa, he got a knee injury. This injury was serious and kept him from playing for the rest of the 2010 season. He worked hard to recover and continued his career in Japan.

Koki Mizuno's International Career

Koki Mizuno was part of the Japanese Under-20 team that played in the 2005 FIFA World Youth Championship. During this tournament, he scored a goal against Benin.

He earned his first cap (meaning his first time playing for the main national team) for the Japanese national team on 24 March 2007. This was in a friendly match against Peru, where he came on as a substitute. He was also chosen to be part of the Japanese team for the 2007 AFC Asian Cup. In this important tournament, he played in two games, coming on as a substitute in both.
