About Konawa Reservoir
Konawa Reservoir provides cooling water for a power plant owned by OG&E. This plant is also located in Seminole County, Oklahoma. The power plant has several large generators that can produce a lot of electricity, up to 1,534 megawatts. When these generators are working, the plant needs to move a huge amount of water, about a million gallons per minute, to cool its equipment.
The lake has a surface area of about 1,350 acres (5.5 square kilometers). Its shoreline stretches for about 20 miles (32 kilometers). The average depth of the lake is 17 feet (5.2 meters), but it can be as deep as 49.8 feet (15.2 meters) in some spots. The water level is kept steady by pumping water from the South Canadian River when needed.
