The Koppers Building was finished in March 1929. It has 34 floors and stands about 475 feet (145 meters) tall. When it was built, it cost about $5.3 million. Today, that would be like spending $90.3 million! You can find it at Grant Street and Seventh Avenue in downtown Pittsburgh.
Building Design and Look
The Koppers Building is a great example of Art Deco style. This was a popular design style in the 1920s and 1930s. It uses fancy decorations and geometric shapes.
The outside of the building is made from light-colored Indiana limestone. It has a shiny granite base and a dark copper roof. Inside, the main lobby is very fancy with beautiful marble walls. The copper roof is shaped like a castle tower and lights up at night. The building was designed by a group of architects called Graham, Anderson, Probst & White.
Who Owned the Building?
In February 1948, a company called Equitable of New York bought the Koppers Building. They paid $6 million for it. That would be like $78.6 million today!
