Koskullskulle is a small town in northern Sweden. It is located in Gällivare Municipality within Norrbotten County. In 2010, about 874 people lived here, making it a close-knit community. This area is known for its beautiful natural surroundings and its important role in Sweden's mining industry.
A Town Born from Iron
Koskullskulle was founded in 1898. This happened because a very important discovery was made: iron ore. Iron ore is a type of rock that contains iron, which is used to make steel. Steel is a strong metal used in buildings, cars, and many other things we use every day.
The town got its name from a person named Georg Adolf Koskull. He was the governor of Norrbotten County from 1816 to 1821. A governor is like a leader or manager for a specific region or county. Naming the town after him was a way to honor his work.
The Vitåfors Mine
Just north of Koskullskulle, there is an important place called the Vitåfors mine. This mine is where the iron ore is dug out of the ground. Mining for iron ore has been a big part of the town's history and economy for a long time. It provides jobs and helps produce materials that are important for industries all over the world.
