Kost is a small, unincorporated community located in Chisago County, in the state of Minnesota. An unincorporated community is a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town.
History of Kost
The community of Kost got its name from a person named Ferdinand A. Kost. He was an important figure in the area's early days.
In 1883, Ferdinand Kost built a local gristmill here. A gristmill is a special building where grain, like wheat or corn, is ground into flour. This mill was very important for the people living nearby, as it helped them turn their crops into food.
A year later, in 1884, a post office was opened in Kost. This made it easier for people to send and receive mail. However, the post office eventually closed down in 1903. Even though the post office is gone, the community still keeps its historical name.
