Kota Sugiyama (杉山 浩太, Sugiyama Kōta, born January 24, 1985) is a former Japanese football player. He played as a midfielder for most of his career.

Playing Career

Kota Sugiyama was born in Shizuoka, Japan, on January 24, 1985. He started his football journey early. He joined the youth team of Shimizu S-Pulse in 2000.

Club Football

Sugiyama became a professional player in 2003. He joined the main team of Shimizu S-Pulse. He played as a defensive midfielder, helping to protect his team's goal.

In 2008, he moved to Kashiwa Reysol for a short time. This was a loan move, meaning he played for them temporarily. He played 34 games and scored 2 goals during his time there.

He returned to Shimizu S-Pulse in 2010. That year, he faced some injuries. This made it hard for him to play many matches. However, from 2011, he started getting more chances to play. He continued to play for Shimizu S-Pulse until 2017.

Towards the end of his career, from 2016, he played less often. Kota Sugiyama decided to retire from professional football at the end of the 2017 season. Throughout his career, he played a total of 183 club games and scored 8 goals.

National Team Experience

In September 2001, Kota Sugiyama was chosen for the Japan U-17 national team. This team was going to play in the 2001 FIFA U-17 World Championship. Even though he was part of the squad, he did not get to play in any matches during the tournament.
