Koudougou is a lively city in Burkina Faso, a country in West Africa. It's about 75 kilometers (47 miles) west of Ouagadougou, which is the capital city. Koudougou is the third largest city in Burkina Faso.
In 2019, about 160,239 people lived there. Most people in Koudougou belong to the Gurunsi and Mossi ethnic groups. Koudougou is important because it's on the only railway line in Burkina Faso. It also has some small factories, a busy market, a university, and government offices.

City Location and Surroundings
Koudougou is found on a flat area called the Mossi Plateau. It is 75 kilometers (47 miles) west of the capital city, Ouagadougou. In 1952, a railway line connected Koudougou to Ouagadougou and Abidjan. This made travel and trade much easier.
The city is also located along important roads. The N13 road goes south of Sabou and north of Yako. The N21 road links Koudougou to Réo, and the N14 connects it with Dédougou. Koudougou includes 15 villages around its main area.
What Koudougou Makes and Does
The main way people make a living in Koudougou is through farming. The city also has several small factories. These factories make things like soap, shea butter, and cotton products. They also produce different types of textiles.
In 2007, Koudougou had many interesting businesses. There were places that made and broadcasted radio and TV shows. People also recycled clothes and made new ones. There was a special farm that grew mangoes and green-leaf vegetables. Workshops made and fixed farming tools from metal. Other workshops recycled metal waste to create machine parts. You could also find electronics repair shops and outdoor spaces for local artists to show their sculptures.
Getting Around Koudougou
Koudougou has a train station that is part of the Abidjan – Ouagadougou Railway. As of 2014, a company called Sitarail ran passenger trains three times a week in each direction. This train helps people travel between cities.
The closest major airport is Ouagadougou International Airport. It is about 141 kilometers (88 miles) southeast of Koudougou. In 2014, this airport had regular flights to many big cities in West Africa. It also had flights to Paris, Brussels, and Istanbul.
Learning in Koudougou
Koudougou is a place where many young people go to learn. Since 2005, the city has been home to the University of Koudougou. In 2010 and 2011, about 5,600 students were studying there. This university helps many students get a higher education.
In 2012, a new vocational school opened in Koudougou. This school teaches students practical skills for different jobs. In 2007-2008, about 79.2% of children attended primary school. Around 20.3% of students went to secondary school.
Sports in Koudougou
Koudougou is a city that loves soccer! There are several soccer clubs for young athletes. Some of these clubs include l'Association des Jeunes Sportifs de Koudougou (AJSK) and l'AS des Employés de Commerce de Koudougou (ASEC-K). Other popular teams are le Bouloumpoukou FC (BPFC) and le Bouloumpoukou Stade (BPS). There's also l'Association des jeunes footballeurs (AJF) and le Jeunesse Club Boulkiemdé. All these teams play their games at the Stade Balibiè.
