The Krackel bar is a yummy chocolate bar made by The Hershey Company. It's special because it has crunchy, crisped rice pieces mixed into the chocolate. This tasty treat first came out a long time ago, on September 14, 1938.

What is Krackel?

Krackel is a delicious candy bar that combines smooth milk chocolate with crispy rice. Imagine tiny, crunchy rice puffs covered in chocolate – that's Krackel!

Krackel's Journey: From Big Bar to Mini

When Krackel first came out, you could buy it as a full-sized chocolate bar. This was true until 1997. For the next 17 years, you could only find Krackel as part of the Hershey's Miniatures assortment. This meant you got a small Krackel bar along with other Hershey's mini chocolates.

Then, in 2014, the full-sized Krackel bar made a comeback! But it didn't stay for long. Today, you can mostly find Krackel only in its miniature size. It's still a popular part of the Hershey's Miniatures collection.

What's Inside Krackel?

Krackel has changed its recipe a few times since it was first made in 1938.

Early Ingredients

When Krackel was first created, it actually had almonds in it! In 1939, peanuts were also added to the recipe. But by 1941, both the almonds and peanuts were removed. That's when the famous crisped rice pieces were added instead. These tiny rice balls are about 2 millimeters wide, giving Krackel its unique crunch.

Modern Krackel Ingredients

The full-sized Krackel bar that returned in 2014 had pretty much the same ingredients as the classic crisped rice version. Even though Krackel's ingredients usually don't have gluten, Hershey's doesn't officially say it's "gluten-free." This is partly because grains can sometimes accidentally mix with other grains that do contain gluten.

Krackel's Look: The Wrapper

You can easily spot a Krackel bar by its wrapper! It has a bright red background with white letters for the name. There's also yellow writing for the smaller details.

Eco-Friendly Wrappers

In 2014, Hershey's started a program to be more environmentally friendly. As part of this, the wrappers for Krackel and other Hershey's miniature chocolates were updated. This change was a big deal! It was estimated to save about 270,000 pounds of paper each year. That's like saving around 1,950 trees every single year!
