Kreuztal is a town in Germany. It is located in the Siegen-Wittgenstein district. This area is part of the state called North Rhine-Westphalia. As of 2012, about 30,827 people lived in Kreuztal.
History of Kreuztal
The first written records about the area where Kreuztal is today go back to the year 1067. The town started to grow a lot in 1861. This happened after the Ruhr-Sieg railroad was built. Kreuztal became an important railroad center at that time. The town of Kreuztal was officially formed on January 1, 1969.
Local Museum
In a part of Kreuztal called Ferndorf, you can find the local history museum. It is also known as the Heimatmuseum. This museum has many interesting things to see. It shows items found from very old times, even before history was written down. You can also see old handicrafts and how homes looked in the 17th and 18th centuries.
Getting Around Kreuztal
Kreuztal is connected to nearby towns by many regional bus lines. Since 1998, a special private bus service has been running. It is called the Bürgerbus, which means "citizen's bus". This was the first private bus service in South Westphalia. You can also reach Kreuztal by air. The Siegerland Airport is located to the south of the district.
