Krishnan Sasikiran (born on January 7, 1981) is a super talented chess player from India. He holds the highest title in chess, which is called a Grandmaster.
He even helped another famous Indian chess player, Viswanathan Anand, during the World Chess Championship 2013.

Sasikiran's Chess Journey
Sasikiran was born in Chennai. He first won the Indian Chess Championship in 1999. He won it again in 2002, 2003, and 2013.
In 1999, he also won the Asian Junior Chess Championship in Vietnam. This showed he was a rising star in the chess world.
Becoming a Grandmaster
Sasikiran earned the Grandmaster title in 2000 at the Commonwealth Chess Championship. This is a huge achievement for any chess player.
In 2001, he won the famous Hastings International Chess tournament. Two years later, in 2003, he won the Asian Individual Championship. He also won the Politiken Cup in Denmark that same year.
Top Achievements and Awards
In 2006, Sasikiran tied for first place at the Aeroflot Open in Russia. Later that year, he won a gold medal for India in the team event at the 2006 Asian Games.
The government of Tamil Nadu gave him a special award of 20 Lakhs (2 million) Indian Rupees for his success. He also received the Arjuna Award in 2002, which is a big honor for athletes in India.
By January 2007, Sasikiran was ranked number 21 in the world. His Elo rating reached 2700, making him only the second Indian chess player to achieve this high score.
In December 2008, he won the City of Pamplona international chess tournament in Spain. He played incredibly well, showing his strong skills.
Recent Successes
In May 2011, Sasikiran won the Asian Blitz Chess Championship. Blitz chess is a very fast game where players have little time to think.
Later in 2011, he won the 15th Corsican Circuit tournament. He even reached the semi-finals of the Corsica Masters rapid tournament, where he played against Viswanathan Anand.
At the 2014 Chess Olympiad in Norway, Sasikiran helped the Indian team win a bronze medal. He also won an individual silver medal for his great performance on board three.
Correspondence Chess Skills
Krishnan Sasikiran is also very good at correspondence chess. This is a type of chess where players send their moves to each other, often by email, and can take days or weeks to finish a game.
In 2015, he became an International Master (IM) in correspondence chess. The next year, in 2016, he earned the title of Senior International Correspondence Chess Master (SIM).

Sasikiran went to school at the Modern Senior Secondary School in Nanganallur, Chennai.
He is married to Radhika, and they have a daughter.
