Kristin Richardson Jordan (born January 3, 1987) is an American politician. She served as a Council member for New York City's 9th City Council district from 2022 to 2024. The City Council helps make important decisions for the city.
In her 2021 campaign for the New York City Council, she talked about "radical love." This idea focused on caring deeply for everyone in the community.
Early Life and Education
Kristin Richardson Jordan was born in Baltimore, Maryland, in 1987. Her parents, Lynne D. Richardson and Desmond Jordan, were both doctors. They had grown up in Harlem, New York.
After her father finished his medical training, her family moved back to Harlem. Kristin grew up there. She went to the Calhoun School and later studied at Brown University. She graduated from Brown in 2009. At college, she studied topics like African-American history and writing.
Kristin is also a published poet. She has written many poems that have been shared with others. She is also known as an activist who works for change in her community.
Political Career
Kristin Richardson Jordan decided to run for the New York City Council in 2021. She ran against the person who was already in office, Bill Perkins.
She won the first election, called the Democratic primary. This win almost guaranteed her election because her district usually votes for Democratic candidates.
Kristin was a member of a group called the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA). Before that, she was part of the Party for Socialism and Liberation.
Kristin served one term as a New York City Council member. On May 16, 2023, she announced that she would not run for reelection.
