Kristin Richardson Jordan (born January 3, 1987) is an American politician. She served as a Council member for New York City's 9th City Council district. This means she helped make decisions for a part of New York City. She held this position from 2022 to 2024.

Jordan identifies as a democratic socialist. This is a political idea that supports democracy and social programs. She also supported the police abolition movement. In her 2021 campaign for the New York City Council, she talked about "radical love."

Early Life and Education

Jordan was born in Baltimore, Maryland, in 1987. Her parents, Lynne D. Richardson and Desmond Jordan, are both doctors. They grew up in Harlem, a neighborhood in New York City. After her father finished his training, the family moved back to Harlem. Jordan grew up there.

She went to the Calhoun School and then to Brown University. She graduated from Brown University in 2009. There, she studied Africana studies and literary arts. Jordan is also a published poet and an activist who works for change.

Political Career

Jordan ran for the New York City Council in 2021. She ran against the person who held the seat before, Bill Perkins. She won the Democratic primary election by a small amount. This win almost guaranteed her election in the district. The district usually votes for Democratic candidates.

Jordan was a member of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA). However, this group did not officially support her campaign. They chose to support other candidates that year. Before joining DSA, Jordan was a member of the Party for Socialism and Liberation.

Jordan served one term as a New York City Council member. Her time in office included many discussions and debates about her ideas. On May 16, 2023, Jordan announced that she would not run for reelection.
