Krivus Island is a small island in Antarctica, mostly covered in ice. It's found on the east side of Johannessen Harbour. This island is part of the Pitt group, which belongs to the larger Biscoe Islands.
The island stretches about 920 meters (that's almost a kilometer!) from north to south. It is also about 1.06 kilometers wide from east to west. Krivus Island is a very cold and remote place, covered in snow and ice all year round.
Where Does the Name Krivus Come From?
Krivus Island got its name from a very old fortress. This fortress, called Krivus, is located in Southern Bulgaria. It's interesting how places in Antarctica are often named after historical sites or people from different parts of the world!

Krivus Island is located in a specific spot within the Biscoe Islands. You can find it at these coordinates: 65°25′53″S 65°23′05″W / 65.43139°S 65.38472°W. It's surrounded by other islands in this icy region.
For example, Krivus Island is about 1.15 kilometers south-southwest of Vaugondy Island. It's also 1.23 kilometers west of Jingle Island. Other nearby islands include Tambra Island (730 meters west-northwest) and Weller Island (910 meters north). Snodgrass Island is about 2.05 kilometers to the east.
British explorers mapped this area in 1971. This mapping helped scientists and researchers understand the geography of this part of Antarctica.
