About Krysta Gonzales
Krysta Gonzales identifies as both Black and Latina. She uses her art to talk about important social and political ideas. She studied at NYU-Tisch School of the Arts and has been interested in art that celebrates people of color since she was thirteen years old.
Her Plays and Writing
Krysta's play Más Cara was recognized in 2017 by the 50 Playwrights Project. This play is about Mexican characters who are stereotypes but then become aware of themselves. They travel through time and different worlds.
In 2015, Krysta gained attention for her play Robin Hood: An Elegy. This play was shown at The Vortex theater in Austin. It used the classic story of Robin Hood to explore themes related to the Black Lives Matter movement. This movement focuses on fairness and equal rights for Black people. Like Más Cara, this play also uses time travel. It highlights Krysta's Black heritage more than her Latina background.
Her most recent play is a radio play called When You KnoW, You KnoW. It was released online in 2018 by DTC Radio.
