Early Life and Start in Modeling
Krysten Ritter was born on December 16, 1981, in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania. She grew up in a small town called Shickshinny, Pennsylvania.
When she was 15, a modeling agent discovered her at a shopping mall event. She said she was "tall, gawky, awkward, and really, really skinny" back then. While still in high school, she traveled to New York City and Philadelphia for modeling jobs. She signed with big modeling agencies like Elite Model Management and Wilhelmina Models.
After high school, Ritter moved to New York. She started an international modeling career, appearing in magazines, catalogs, and fashion shows. She worked in cities like Tokyo, New York City, Paris, and Milan.
Acting Career Highlights
Krysten Ritter began acting after a modeling agency helped her get an audition for a TV commercial. She impressed the casting directors with her "outgoing and bubbly and funny" personality.
She started with small roles in films in 2001. In 2003, she played an art history student in the movie Mona Lisa Smile. She also performed in stage plays, including All This Intimacy in 2006.
Early TV Roles
Ritter had guest roles and repeated appearances on several TV shows. She played Gia Goodman on Veronica Mars and Rory Gilmore's friend, Lucy, on Gilmore Girls.
In 2009, she appeared in an episode of Gossip Girl that was meant to start a new show about the character Lily van der Woodsen's teenage years. Ritter played Lily's sister, Carol, describing her as "an '80s Sunset Strip rocker." However, the new show was not picked up by the network.
Breakthrough with Breaking Bad
Later in 2009, Ritter got her big break playing Jane Margolis in the second season of Breaking Bad. This role made her very well-known. She was surprised by how popular the show became, saying it was "the gift that keeps on giving" because of its many dedicated fans.
She continued to work in movies, often playing the main character's best friend in romantic comedies. She was in What Happens in Vegas and 27 Dresses (both 2008). She also co-starred with Isla Fisher in Confessions of a Shopaholic. In She's Out of My League (2010), she played Patty, the cynical best friend.
