Krysten Alyce Ritter (born December 16, 1981) is an American actress known for playing powerful and memorable characters. She started her career as a model before becoming an actress. Many people know her from the TV shows Veronica Mars and Gilmore Girls.
Her big break came when she played Jane Margolis in the popular drama series Breaking Bad from 2009 to 2010. She later played the main character in the comedy Don't Trust the ... in Apartment 23. Ritter is also famous for her role as the superhero private investigator Jessica Jones. She played this character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe shows Jessica Jones and The Defenders. She is set to play the role again in the second season of Daredevil: Born Again.
In movies, Ritter has appeared in comedies like 27 Dresses, What Happens in Vegas, and She's Out of My League. She also starred in the dark fantasy movie Nightbooks. Besides acting, Ritter is a singer and guitarist in a band called Ex Vivian and has written two novels.

Early Life and Modeling
Krysten Ritter was born in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania. She grew up on a farm in a nearby town called Shickshinny. She has German, Scottish, and English ancestors.
When she was 15, a modeling agent saw her at a local mall. At the time, Ritter described herself as "tall, gawky, awkward, and really, really skinny." She started traveling to New York City to model while still in high school. After graduating, she moved to New York and became an international model. She worked in major fashion cities like Tokyo, Paris, and Milan.
Acting Career
Ritter's acting career began after a successful audition for a TV commercial. Casting directors liked her funny and outgoing personality. She started getting small parts in movies in 2001. She also performed in an Off-Broadway play in 2006.
Early TV and Film Roles
Ritter had several guest roles on popular TV shows. She played Gia Goodman on Veronica Mars and Rory Gilmore's friend, Lucy, on Gilmore Girls. She also appeared in an episode of Gossip Girl in a role that was meant to start a new spin-off series, but the show was not created.

In 2014, Ritter was cast as the lead in the Marvel TV series Jessica Jones. She played the title character, a former superhero who opens her own detective agency. To prepare, Ritter read the original comic books. The show was a huge success and ran for three seasons. She also played Jessica Jones in the crossover series The Defenders, teaming up with other Marvel heroes like Daredevil and Luke Cage.

Other Projects
Besides acting, Krysten Ritter has many other talents. She is part of an indie rock band called Ex Vivian, where she sings and plays guitar. The band released an album in 2012.
Ritter is also a published author. Her first novel, a thriller called Bonfire, was released in 2017. Her second novel, Retreat, was released in March 2025.
Personal Life
Ritter is a strong supporter of animal rights. She has worked with PETA on campaigns to protect animals. She has warned people about the dangers of leaving pets in hot cars and has spoken out against keeping orcas in captivity.
In her free time, Ritter loves to knit. She has even been on the cover of Vogue Knitting magazine.
Ritter was in a relationship with musician Adam Granduciel from 2014 to 2021. They have one son, who was born in 2019.
